In the post-apocalyptic city-state of California, there lies a series of long collapsed tunnels. Before the 2nd Dark Age, they were the sewer system that ran under the entire state. Underneath the part now used by the district of San Francisco is a complex built before the fires of the War of Ultimate Conquest scorched the world.

This complex is occupied by a cult known as the Children of the Crimson Sky, led by one Askelon von Winterfyeth. He and his trusted lieutenants, (and friends) Smash and Dust, are thrust into a battle for their lives and home after being attacked by the mysterious Knights of the Rising Sun, who come for an archaic fusion of Magic and Japanimancy (a magic which requires a will as sharp as a knife, and devotion beyond thought); a powerful artefak from before the Dark Age.

Not even the great Japanimancer Askelon himself knows the extent of the power this relic contains. The Demiurge only knows what catastophe would happen should the Knights get their hands on it...
